Padindrukke: Honda HR-V 1,8 Elegance

Dit is vanjaar twintig jaar sedert Honda die eerste HR-V internasionaal bekendgestel het.

Dié eerste model was met drie of vyf deure beskikbaar en het ‘n eiesoortige voorkoms gehad waaarna jy gek was of waarvan jy hoegenaamd niks gehou het nie. In 2006 is dié model aan die mark onttrek, en die benaming het eers in 2015 herleef toe die tweede geslag bekendgestel is. Noudat die ontwerp drie jaar oud is, het dit tyd geword vir ‘n aantal detailveranderinge. MotorPlus het die geleentheid gebruik om die topmodel in die reeks, die 1,8 Elegance, te toets.

Die HR-V het ‘n bedrieglike voorkoms; dit lyk na ‘n koepee, maar dit is eintlik ‘n oorkruis- sportnutsvoertuig met vyf deure. Die deurhandavatsels van die agterste deure is hoog gemonteer, maar dit is steeds toeganklik vir almal. Die Elegance word toegerus met allooiwiele met 215/55 R 17-bande en ‘n volgrootte noodwiel is standaardtoerusting. Die elektries verstelbare buitespieëls is dieselfde kleur as die bakwerk en kan met die druk van ‘n knoppie invou.

Die binnekant van die HR-V is baie goed toegerus en soos wat ‘n mens van ‘n Honda kan verwag, is die bougehalte uitstekend. Die veelfunksiestuurwiel is met leer oorgetrek en bevat kontroles vir die klankstelsel, die spoedbeheer en die telefoon, wat baie maklik deur middel van Bluetooth gekoppel kan word. Die instrumentepaneel bestaan uit die spoedmeter, die toereteller en, aan die regterkant, ‘n brandstofmeter, ‘n brandstofverbruikmeter wat die verbruik in liter per 100 km aandui en net die onmiddellike verbruik aandui, asook ‘n ritmeter, wat ook aandui hoe ver ‘n mens nog met die oorblywende brandstof kan ry. Die klankstelsel het ‘n raakskerm en is lekker hoog geplaas vir maklike gebruik. Dit bevat ook ‘n tru-kamera, hoewel satellietnavigasie nie beskikbaar is nie.

Die USB-sok en plek vir die SD-kaart is regs van die klankstelsel gemonteer, wat dalk nie die ideale plek is wanneer ‘n selfoon gelaai word nie. Die klimaatbeheer, wat standaardtoerusting vir die Elegance is, werk uitstekend en selfs al is die sitplekke met leer afgewerk, is dit nooit ongemaklik nie. Een van die mees vindingryke kenmerke van die HR-V, wat hy ook met die Jazz deel, is Honda se Magic Seat; die agtersitplekke se kussings kan teen die rugleuning gevou word indien ‘n lang item dwars in die voertuig vervoer moet word. Die rugleunings van die agtersitplekke kan natuurlik ook op die gewone manier platvegou word, en wanneer dit gebeur, is die bagasiebak se vloer steeds gelyk.

Die HR-V is beskikbaar in twee modelle, naamlik die 1,5 Comfort en die onderwerp van hierdie toets, die 1,8 Elegance. Hierdie model se viersilinderenjin van 1.8 liter lewer 105 kW teen 6 000 opm en wringkrag van 172 Nm teen 4 300 opm. Albei modelle het ‘n palwissel (CVT)-ratkas met sewe gange as standaardtoerusting. Benewens Park, Reverse, Neutral en Drive is daar ook ‘n S-opsie, wat vermoedelik vir Sport staan. Kies daardie opsie en jy kan ratte met die spane agter die stuurwiel wissel sonder om eers jou voet van die versnellerpedaal af te haal. Dit werk veral baie goed wanneer jy op die oop pad vining by ‘n voertuig wil verbysteek. Die ratwisseling, hetsy in handrat- of outomatiese funksie, verloop seepglad. Die Elegance kan ‘n topsnelheid van 188 km/h bereik en versnel van 0 tot 100 km/h in 10,1 sekondes. Die gemiddelde brandstofverbruik van die Elegance is 6,8 liter per 100 km, wat beteken dat ‘n reikafstand van omtrent 700 km met die 50 liter- brandstoftenk moontlik is. Dié tenk is tien liter groter as dié van die Comfort, en dit maak ‘n groot verskil.

Die HR-V-reeks beskik oor die belangrikste veiligheidskenmerke as standaardtoerusting, onder meer voorste-, kant- en gordynlugsakke, ABS-remme met elektroniese remverspreiding, wegtrekhulp, outomatiese volg-my-en-lei-my-kopligte, outomatiese ruitveërs (laasgenoemde twee kenmerke net op die Elegance) en ISOFIX-hegpunte vir die agtersitplekke.

Daar is net ‘n handjievol mededingers in hierdie marksegment en net ‘n paar wat outomatiese- of CVT-ratkaste het en toegerus is met enjins wat nie turboaanjaers het nie. Die Mitsubishi ASX is al geruime tyd op die mark, en die Sport, wat onlangs by die reeks gevoeg is, is die HR-V se naaste mededinger. Sy prys is R 399 995, wat nie te sleg lyk nie, maar ‘n mens wonder of die Eclipse Cross hom nie dalk binnekort gaan vervang nie. Die Mazda CX-3 Individual Plus kos R 404 200 en hy word toegerus met baie kenmerke wat nie eers opsioneel vir die Honda beskikbaar is nie, soos satellietnavigasie, ‘n sondak en veiligheidskenmerke soos ‘n bindekolmonitor, ‘n stelsel wat jou waarsku as jy per abuis uit jou baan beweeg en ‘n waarskuwing as die bestuurder nie genoeg aandag op die pad gee nie.

Die probleem met die CX-3 is egter dat sy bagasiebak ontsettend klein is, en nie juis geskik is vir ‘n gesin nie. Nog ‘n mededinger met dieselfde probleem is die Toyota C-HR; waarvan die Plus CVT en die Luxury naastenby in die HR-V se prysklas val. Die C-HR is ook Toyota se eerste model wat in Suid-Afrika met die turbo-aangejaagde 1,2 liter-enjin toegerus is. Ongelukkig druip die C-HR die toets as ruimte vir ‘n gesin belangrik is. Die Haval H6C kan beslis nie buite rekening gelaat word nie; hy is groter as die HR-V en, in die geval van die Luxury, wat R 399 900 kos, ook baie beter toegerus. Die enigste probleem is sy brandstofverbruik, wat baie hoër is.

Die Honda HR-V 1,8 Elegance se prys, wat ‘n waarborg van vyf jaar of 200 000km en ‘n diensplan van vier jaar of 60 000km insluit, is R 419 900. As ‘n mens hom met sy mededingers vergelyk, lyk dit asof hy effens duur is, maar dit is net die helfte van die storie. Honda se voertuie het nog altyd ‘n reputasie vir betroubaarheid, redelike loopkostes, duursaamheid en goeie gehalte gehad. Daarby is die herverkoopwaarde van die meeste van Honda se modelle baie goed. Dit beteken dat die HR-V ‘n uitstekende keuse is vir iemand wat ‘n motor vir die lang termyn nodig het; hy kan baie sterk aanbeveel word omdat hy sy eienaar jare se goeie diens sal gee.
