BMW se nuwe Drie is hier

Sedert sy aanvanklike internasionale bekendstelling in 1975 het die 3-reeks die gewildste model in BMW se reeks geword, en deur die jare het dié reeks die standaard gestel vir bestuursgenot, gehalte en werkverrigting.

Die sewende geslag van hierdie modelreeks is pas in Suid-Afrika bekendgestel; daar sal vir eers net twee modelle beskikbaar wees, maar die reeks sal met verloop van tyd uitgebrei word. Die 3-reeks sal, vir die eerste keer sedert sy aanvanklike Suid-Afrikaanse bekendstelling in 1983, na Suid-Afrika ingevoer word eerder as om plaaslik vervaardig te word en net die vierdeursedan sal hier beskikbaar wees. (Die X3 word nou in Suid-Afrika vervaardig)

Die nuwe 3-reeks sedan is 76 mm langer, 16 mm breër en net 1mm hoër as sy voorganger. Die kenmerkende BMW-niertjie-sierrooster is groter as voorheen, en volle LED-kopligte met U-vormige dagryligte is standaard toerusting. Aanpasbare LED-kopligte met laser tegnologie en seshoekige dagryligte is opsioneel beskikbaar. Die enjinkap beskik oor vier kontoerlyne wat na die sierrooster toe loop en die voorkant daarvan is gelyk met die sierrooster en die kopligte. Die voorste drukvin het ‘n moderne voorkoms en beskik oor ‘n groot luguitlaat in die middel en twee kleintjies aan weerskante, waarin die misligte gemonteer is. Dié van die Sport-modelle het ‘n horisontale T-vorm. Aan die kant is daar ‘n nuwe weergawe van BMW se kenmerkende “Hofmeister-kink” op die agterdeure; hierdie element van die vensterraam is nou by die C-pilaar geïntegreer. Aan die agterkant is daar effens verdonkerde L-vormige LED-agterligte wat die agterkant ‘n breë voorkoms gee. Daar is ook dubbele 80- of 90mm-uitlaatpype, afhangende van die model. Voornemende kopers kan uit twaalf kleure, onder meer tien metaalkleure wat nuwe skakerings van brons en blou insluit, kies.

Die uitstaande kenmerk van die herontwerpte binneruim is die nuwe digitale instrumente-paneel, terwyl die aansit knoppie op die middelkonsole langs die ratkieser en die iDrive-kontrole gemonteer is. Die elektromeganiese parkeerrem vervang ‘n konvensionele handrem. Die nuwe 3-reeks beskik oor verbeterde skouer- en elmboog-ruimte voor, asook bykomende beenruimte agter. Die bagasieruim hou 480 liter en ‘n agtersitplek, wat in ‘n 40/20/40-verhouding verdeel word, is standaard toerusting. Daarby is elektriese werking vir die bagasie-bak deksel en ‘n trekstang wat elektries uit- en teruggetrek kan word, teen ekstra koste beskikbaar. Die opsionele Comfort Access- stelsel, wat met sensors werk, sluit die motor outomaties oop of toe en sluit handvrye werking van die bagasie-bak deksel in.

Daar is aanvanklik twee modelle beskikbaar. Die 320d word toegerus met ‘n tweeliter- turbodiesel enjin wat ‘n kraglewering van 140 kW teen 4000 opm opwek en wringkrag van 400 Nm teen tussen 1 750 en 2 500 opm lewer. Die 320d kan binne 6.8 sekondes van 0 tot 100 km versnel en ‘n topsnelheid van 240 km/u behaal. Die ander model wat van die begin af beskikbaar is, is die 330i. Hierdie model se turbo-aangejaagde tweeliter- viersilinderenjin lewer 190 kW tussen 5 000 en 6 500 opm en ‘n wringkrag van 400 Nm teen 1 550 en 4 400 opm. Die 330i se topsnelheid is 250 km/u en dit duur 5,8 sekondes om van 0 tot 100 km/u te versnel. Die reeks sal in die derde kwartaal van 2019 uitgebrei word wanneer die 320i en 330d by die reeks gevoeg word. Die hele reeks het ‘n Steptronic-ratkas met agt gange as standaard toerusting.

Die nuwe 3-reeks is beskikbaar met ‘n aantal vindingryke hulpmiddels om die bestuurservaring so moeiteloos as moontlik te maak en ‘n leidende rol speel in die strewe na volle outomatiese beheer. Daar is ‘n stelsel beskikbaar wat voetgangers, fietsryers of ander hindernisse bespeur en die remstelsel in werking stel wanneer ‘n fietsryer voor die bestuurder in beweeg. Die aktiewe spoedbeheer beskik oor ‘n stop-en-ryfunksie wat dit makliker maak om in swaar verkeer te bestuur . Daar is ook ‘n bestuurshulpstelsel , bekend as Driving Assist Professional, beskikbaar, met kenmerkewat veiligheid en gerief tot nuwe hoogtes voer. Dit sluit baan-hou hulp en stuurbeheerhulp in en help mdie bestuurder om binne ‘n afgebakende baan deur nou kanale te beweeg. Daar is ook parkeer-sensors en ‘n trukamera wat die bestuurder nog verdere gemoedsrus gee. Daarby is ‘n gevorderde parkeer hulpstelsel, wat ook stuurwerk, versnelling, ratwisseling en remming beheer, ook beskikbaar.

BMW se nuwe intelligente persoonlike assistant, wat op die stemopdrag “Hey BMW” reageer, maak sy buiging in die nuwe 3-reeks. Dit versakil van soortgelyke stelsels in die sin dat die bestuurder dié assistant ‘n naam kan gee. Hierdie assistant kan belangrike funksies van die motor verduidelik, huidige status-inligting gee en vrae beantwoord. Dit kan as ‘n medebestuurder beskou word en is veral nuttig vir alledaagse situasies deurdat dit op stemopdragte reageer en produktiwiteit en vermaaklikheid binne die motor verhoog. Die reeks funksies kan met behulp van ‘n slimfoon bygewerk word.

Daar is drie afwerkings-pakkette vir die 3-reeks beskikbaar. Benewens die standaard model kan die koper ook die Sport- of M Sport-pakket kies. Benewens die standaard kenmerke waarmee die standaard model toegerus is, kry die Sport onder meer hoëglans- Shadowline-buite afwerking, 17 duim-allooiwiele met ‘n V-speek-ontwerp, ‘n model-spesifieke sleutel, ‘n leer oorgetrekte sportstuurwiel, ‘n Sport-kenteken op die voorste modderskerms en sport-sitplekke voor. Die M Sport voeg die volgende kenmerke by: ‘n aërodinamika-pakket met die voorste lugskort, syskorte en wiel-boog afwerking in dieselfde kleur as die bakwerk, ‘n agterste lugverdeler met swart afwerking, ‘n leer oorgetrekte M-stuurwiel, skermplate met die M-kenteken in die deure, 18-duim dubbelspeek- alloowiele in twee kleure, ‘n M-sleutel met afstandbeheer, en antrasiet-afwerking vir die binnekant van die dak.

Die pryse van die standaardweergawes van die 320d en die 330i is R 649 000 elk. Die Sport-pakket kos ‘n bykomende R 23 600 vir albei modelle terwyl die prys vir die M Sport-pakket R 45 400 en R 47 400 ekstra vir onderskeidelik die 320d en die 330i is. Hierdie pryse sluit geen bykomende opsionele ekstras, waarvan verskeie beskikbaar is, in nie.

Soos met alle BMW-modelle wat in Suid-Afrika berkoop word, is ‘n volle onderhoudsplan van vyf jaar of 100 000 ingesluit, maar die afstand kan teen ekstra koste na tot 200 000 km verleng word.
