Die KB is dood; lank lewe die D-MAX

Sedert sy aanvanklike bekendstelling in 1978 het die Isuzu KB een van Suid-Afrika segunstelingbakkies geword.

Nou het Isuzu Motors Suid-Afrika (IMSA) aangekondig dat die KB-naam nie langer gebruik gaan word nie en dat dié reeks voortaan soos in die res van die wêreld, as die D-MAX bekend sal staan. Die D- MAX-benaming het in Thailand ontstaan na aanleiding van die Isuzu bakkie van die jaar 2000 wat ‘n “Dragon Eyes”-kopligontwerp gehad het. Daarby verteenwoordig dit Isuzu se legendariese dieselenjins, die gebruik van toonaangewende regstreekse inspuiting en duursaamheid en ontwerp wat onder die beste ter wêreld is. Die MAX-deel van die naam verteenwoordig Isuzu se ontwerpbenadering wat grootte, tegnologie, werkverrigting en tegnologie bevat.

Die D-MAX-modelreeks bestaan uit dertig modelle vir die Suid-Afrikaanse mark en die vlagskipmodelle stel nuwe standaarde vir gehalte en weelde. Die 3,0 LX -modelle se hand- en outomatiese ratkaste kry ses ratte eerder as vyf; gevolglik is sy werkverrigting, brandstofverbruik en algehele verfyndheid soveel beter as voorheen. Hierdie modelle, wat as enkelkajuit, Extended Cab en dubbelkajuitmodelle beskikbaar is, kry ‘n nuwe vooraansig met ‘n verchroomde sierrooster en nuwe L-vormige kopligte. Die Extended Cab- en dubbelkajuitmodelle word ook nou toegerus met nuwe projektor-kopligte en nuwe omhulsels vir die voorste misligte.

Aan die binnekant is die LX luukser as voorheen toegerus. Die paneelbord beskik nou oor sagter material en die paneelkissie kry die D MAX-kenteken. Die raakskerm is nou agt duim groot en bevat die uitleespaneel vir die trukamera, asook Bluetooth-verbinding. Die Alpine inligting-en-vermaakstelsel wat in die mu-X bekendgestel is, is teen ekstra koste vir die LX-modelle beskikbaar.

Hierdie stelsel beskik oor ‘n skerm van nege duim, asook USB-, HDMI en AUX-videokragpunte. Sodra Apple Car Play en Android Auto in Suid-Afrika beskikbaar is, sal hierdie stelsel gereed wees daarvoor. Die nuwe outomatiese ratkas wat vir die LX-modelle beskikbaar is, is dieselfde een wat onlangs sy buiging in die mu-X gemaak het. Hierdie ratkas het ‘n handratfunksies wat die bestuurder in staat stel om ratte sonder ‘n koppelaar te wissel. Hierdie funksie is uiters geskik vir wanneer ‘n woonwa in moeilike terrein gesleep word. Tesame met afdraandbeheer maak dit dat dit moontlik is om eerste rat te skakel wanneer it daar teen ‘n steil afdraand bestuur word. Dit sorg vir optimale beheer want dit handhaaf die voertuig se vasgestelde snelheid teen steil afdraandes.

Die ABS-remstelsel van die LX-modelle word verder versterk met die toevoeging van Isuzu se Brake Override System (BOS), wat die inset van die versnellerpedaal beperk as daar terselfdetyd rem getrap word. Die elektroniese stabiliteitsbeheer word ook verder verbeter met die toevoeging van ‘n stelsel wat keer dat ‘n woonwa of sleepwa wat gesleep word, swaai. Die Hi-Rider en LE kan bestel word met ‘n trekstang wat ‘n geremde sleepwa met ‘n massa van tot 2,1 ton kan sleep. Die LX se swaardienstrekstang kan ‘n massa van tot 3,5 ton hanteer.Soos voorheen is wegtrekhulp, afdraandebeheer en elektroniese stabiliteitsbeheer standaardtoerusting vir alle modelle van die Fleetside Safety tot die LX.

Die D-MAX-reeks bestaan uit dertig modelle wat die behoeftes van die meeste kopers, hetsy vir werk of ontspanning, behoort te bevredig. Altesaam sestien enkelkajuitmodelle is beskikbaar, onder meer die nuwe Dropside Base, wat beskikbaar is met ‘n fabrieksgemonteerde plat laaibak of valkante. Die Dropside Base is beskikbaar met die intreevlak- of Fleetside-afwerking, maar die 2,5 LEED- turbodieselenjin wat 58 kW teen 3 800 opm en wringkrag van 176 Nm teen 1 800 opm lewer, is standaardtoerusting. Nog ‘n nuwe model is die Fleetside Safety, wat toegerus is met die kragtiger 2,5 liter D-Teq-turbodieselenjin wat 100 kW teen 3 800 opm en wringkrag van 320 Nm teen tussen

1 800 en 2 800 opm lewer. Hierdie model beskik oor ABS-remme, twee lugsakke, wegtrekhulp en stabiliteitsbeheer. Die Extended Cab reeks bestaan uit die 2,5 liter Hi-Rider, ‘n 3,0 LX 4×2 handrat of outomaties en die 3,0 LX 4×4 handrat. Die LX se enjin lewer 130 kW teen 3 600 opm en wringkrag van 380 Nm teen tussen 1 800 en 2 800 opm.

Daar is ‘n nuwe intreemodel in die dubbelkajuitreeks, naamlik die HO Base, wat met die D-Teq-enjin toegerus word. Hierdie model sluit hom aan by die Hi-Rider, X-Rider en LE-modelle, almal met dieselfde enjin. Die Hi-Rider en X-Rider is as 4×2- en 4×4-modelle beskikbaar. Die nuwe 3,0 LX 4×2 en 4×4, met ‘n keuse van ‘n hand- of outomatiese ratkas met ses gange elk, is die vlagskip van die reeks. Isuzu Complete Care is standaardtoerusting vir die hele Isuzu-reeks en weerspieël IMSA se verbintenis tot klantediens.

 

Die hele reeks word gerugsteun deur ‘n waarborg en padbystand van vyf jaar of 120 000 km, asook ‘n waarborg van vyf jaar teen korrosie ongeag die voertuig se kilometerlesing. Hoewel ‘n diensplan van vyf jaar of 90 000 km standaardtoerusting is, kan dit verleng word tot ses jaar of 200 000km, of die eienaar kan besluit om ‘n volle onderhoudsplan van tot ses jaar of 200 000km te kies.
