Isuzu D Max 3,0 LX: Rof maar beskaafd

Die Isuzu D Max 3,0 LX is die top “beskaafde” model in die Isuzu bakkie-reeks. Die vlagskip van die D-Max bakkie-reeks is die “wilde” Arctic wat meer gemik is vir veldry-toestande, terwyl die 3,0 LX vir beide teer- en grondpaaie met groot ry-gerief as bonus, kans sien. Die Arctic 35 AT is gebaseer op die D-Max 3,0 LX 4×4 dubbelkajuit met ‘n outomatiese ratkas, maar die Fox Performance-veerstelsel en dempers sorg vir ongekende veldryvermoë.

Die LX is beskikbaar met drie kajuite, naamlik ‘n enkelkajuit, ‘n Extended Cab en ‘n dubbelkajuit. Al drie modelle word toegerus met ‘n handratkas met ses gange, terwyl ‘n outomatiese ratkas met ses gange opsioneel vir die dubbel-kajuit beskikbaar is. Die hele LX-reeks is in 4×2 en 4×4-modelle beskikbaar.

Die LX-modelle, asook die Arctic en die mu-X, word toegerus met ‘n drie liter turbo-aangejaagde dieselenjin wat ‘n kraglewering van130 kW teen 3 600 opm lewer en ‘n wringkrag van 380 Nm tussen 1 800 en 2 800 opm opwek.  Die ander enjinkeuse vir die meeste Isuzu-modelle is ‘n turbo-dieselenjin van 2,5 liter wat aan ‘n vyfgang-handratkas gekoppel word. Hierdie enjin lewer 100 kW teen 3 600 opm en het ‘n wringkrag van 320 Nm tussen 1 800 en 2 800 opm. 

Die Isuzu-reeks hoef niks meer te bewys wat betroubaarheid en uithou-vermoë betref nie, aangesien daar ‘n aantal van hulle is wat al ‘n miljoen kilometer afgelê het. Daarom is hulle uiters geskik vir diegene wat lank met ‘n voertuig wil ry en lang afstande wil aflê. Hulle is ook uiters geskik as werkesels en was nog al die jare gewild onder boere. Aan die negatiewe kant is hulle nie heeltemal so verfynd soos sommige mededingers nie. Die  LX se vernaamste mededingers op die Suid-Afrikaanse mark is die Toyota Hilux 2,8 GD 6 Raider (die Legend 50 is natuurlik nog ‘n mededinger, maar ‘n beperkte model), die Ford Ranger 3,2 TDCI XLT, en die Nissan Navara 2,3 D LE, wat net as ‘n dubbel-kajuit beskikbaar is.

In 2018 het Isuzu die bekende KB-model benaming vervang met die D-Max benaming wat internasionaal gebruik word.

Die D-Max-reeks is beskikbaar in verskillende vlakke van afwerking. Die enkel-kajuitreeks bestaan uit die gewone model, die Fleetside, die LE en die LX. Die X-Rider-reeks is onlangs uitgebrei met die toevoeging van die Extended Cab terwyl daar ook Hi Rider en LX-modelle beskikbaar is. Die afwerkingsvlak van die Hi-Rider stem grootliks ooreen met dié van die Fleetside-enkelkajuit. Die dubbel-kajuitreeks bestaan uit die 250 Hi-Rider, LE, X-Rider en 300 LX, asook die nuwe Arctic AT 35, wat in beperkte getalle in Isuzu se fabriek in Port Elizabeth vervaardig word.
