Suzuki se blitsbuks beter as ooit

Die Suzuki Swift Sport, wat al as die maatstaf vir intreevlak-blitsbukse beskou is, is terug en beter as ooit.

Die groot nuus is dat die jongste model toegerus word met Suzuki se turbo-aangejaagde Boosterjet-enjin, wat sy debuut in die Swift Sport, asook ‘n bykomende model in die Virata-reeks, maak.  Volgens André Venter, die afdelings-bestuurder vir verkope en bemarking van Suzuki Auto SA, lui die bekendstelling van die Swift Sport, asook die nuwe enjin, ‘n nuwe tydvak vir Suzuki in Suid-Afrika in. Die Boosterjet-enjin het in 2018 die IATIA-enjin van die jaar-toekenning gewen.

Die stigter van die maatskappy Lotus, wyle Colin Chapman, het gesê dat meer krag jou vinniger in ‘n reguit lyn maak maar dat minder gewig jou oral vinniger maak. Hierdie filosofie is ook op die Swift Sport van toepassing gemaak en sedert die bekendstelling van die eerste Swift Sport in 2005 het die ingenieurs hard gewerk om gewig oral in die motor te verminder; van die ontwerp van die sportisplekke tot die smeemetode van die allooi-wiele. Die nuwe Swift Sport weeg 970 kg, ‘n volle 90 kg minder as sy voorganger; dit maak hom een van die min motors met ‘n krag-tot-massaverhouding van 100 kW per ton.

Die ontwerp van die nuwe Swift Sport is daarop gemik om die asems van blitsbuks-ondersteuners weg te slaan. Die nuweling is laer, breër en langer as sy voorganger en word van sy mindere stalmaats onderskei deur middel van ‘n aantal unieke kenmerke.  Die hele neus is herontwerp; dit bevat ‘n groter sierrooster met ‘n heuningkoek-patroon wat effens agteroor leun. Daar is ook twee groot holtes met misligte aan weerskante. Die kopligte bestaan uit ligdiodes met lang lig-diodestroke vir die dagryligte, asook ‘n lugverdeler met ‘n koolvesel-patroon om sy sportiewe voorkoms af te rond.

Die mees uitstaande kenmerk aan die kant van die Swift Sport is sy diamant-gesnyde allooi-wiele met 195/50 R 16-laeprofiel-bande. Nuwe koolvesel-patroon-lugskorte vloei van die voorste lugverdeler tussen die voor- en agterwiele vir beter aërodinamika en ‘n laer houding bo die grond. Daar is verdonkerde privaatheids-glas vir die agterste kantvensters vir visuele onderskeiding en om die skuins dak te beklemtoon. Aan die agterkant is daar ‘n herontwerpte stamper met twee verchroomde uitlaatpype wat ontwerp is vir ‘n dieper enjinklank teen lae snelhede.  Daar is ook ligdiode-agterligte en ‘n groter, geïntegreerde drukvlerk op die rak. Die ontwerp word afgerond met ‘n lugverdeler aan die agterkant, in dieselfde styl en ontwerp as die voorste verdeler en die kantskorte.

Die lugskorte onderskei die Sport nie net van die res van die reeks nie; sit vervul ook ‘n aërodinamiese rol. Hierdie skorte, tesame met die herontwerpte dakdrukvlerk, nuwe plat skorte onder die enjin en die kajuit se vloer en nuwe, groter lugskorte aan die voorkant, maak die nuwe Swift Sport 10% meer aërodinamies doeltreffend as sy voorganger.

Die groot nuus is egter onder die enjinkap. Die turbo-aangejaagde Boosterjet-enjin met ‘n verplasings-inhoud van 1 373 cc, vervang die vorige model se 1,6 liter-enjin sonder ‘n turbo-aanjaer. Die nuwe enjin spog ook met ‘n regstreekse brandstof-inspuiting-stelsel met ‘n hoëdruk- en hoëpresisiestelsel met sewe inspuiters. Die enjin is ontwerp met ‘n ‘n baie kort inlaat-spruitstuk, ‘n geëntegreerde uitlaat-spruitstuk en ‘n pendulum-agtige enjin-monteerstelsel vir bykomende stewigheid. Die ontwerp van die enjin het die ingenieurs ook in staat gestel om die enjin vir verbeter gewigsverdeling en ‘n lae swaartepunt te posisioneer. Die ingenieurs het ook die wisselende kleptydreëling (VVT) van die vorige model vervang met ‘n rollertipe-VVT-stelsel wat meer progessiewe kraglewering, veral teen hoë snelhede, bied.

In die Swift Sport lewer die Boosterjet-enjin 103 kW teen 5 500 opm en wringkrag van 230 Nm teen tussen 2 500 en 3 500 opm; 70 Nm meer as voorheen. Die Swift Sport kan binne agt sekondes van 0 tot 100 km/h versnel en ‘n topsnelheid van 205 km/h bereik.

Daar is twee ratkaste om van te kies, naamlik ‘n handratkas of ‘n nuwe outomatiese ratkas met ses gange elk. Albei is vir vinnige ratwisseling in harde versnelling ontwikkel en daar is geen verskil in die 0 tot 100 km/h-versnellingstye tussen die twee ratkaste nie. In die handratkas se geval is die ratwisseling 10% korter as voorheen. Die outomatiese ratkas vervang die palwissel (CVT)-ratkas wat nie in Suid-Afrika beskikbaar was nie. 

Die binneruim is ook só ontwerp om van die res van die Swift-reeks onderskei te word. Daar is hoofsaaklik van rooi en chroom detail gebruik gemaak, soos rooi stikwerk vir die rathefboomkous, stuurwiel en sitplekke en ‘n spesiale rooi-na-swart gradering vir die sitplekbekleedsel om die Sport se sportiewe karakter te belkemtoon. Agter die dik D-vormige stuurwiel is ‘n unieke stel instrumente waaronder ‘n rooi agtergrond vir die toereteller en ‘n diep silwer agtergrond vir die spoedmeter. Suzuki se ontwerpers het klein indelings vir die meters gebruik om die indruk van gevorderde meganiese instrumente te skep. Daar is ‘n multi-inligting-vloeikristal-skerm tussen die spoedmeter en die toereteller wat geprogrammeer kan word om die turbo-temperatuur, oliedruk en ander inligting te gee.  

Die bestuurder het die voordeel van sportpedale in vlekvrye staal terwyl daar halfskottel-sitplekke vir die voorste insittendes is; dit is herontwerp om beter syversterking in die sitplek en aan weerskante van die rugleuning te bied sonder die soort uitputting wat dikwels  as gevolg van swaar sywaartse inspanning voorkom. 

Die Swift Sport bied verskeie weeldeken-merke, onder meer spoedgevoelige kragstuur, outomatiese klimaatbeheer, elektries wegvoubare buitespieëls en elektriese vensters reg rondom. Die nuwe seweduim-raakskerm werk met Apple Car Play en Android Auto, asook ‘n trukamera, Bluetooth- en USB-verbindings, spoedbeheer en stuurkontroles. 

Soos die superheld Spiderman tereg opmerk, kom groot krag met groot verantwoordelikheid, en die Swift Sport beskik oor veiligheids-kenmerke soos ses lugsakke, ABS-remme met elektroniese remverspreiding en noodrem-hulp en elektroniese stabiliteits-beheer. Daar is ook ISOFIX-ankerpunte vir kinder- en babastoeltjies. 

Die Swift Sport word gerugsteun deur ‘n waarborg van vyf jaar of 200 000 km en ‘n diensplan van vier jaar of 60 000 km, en sy prys is R 315 900 en R 335 900 vir die handrat- en outomatiese model onderskeidelik.
