Sedert die bekendstelling van die Tata Ultra-reeks twee jaar gelede, het dié modelreeks een van die markleiers in die segment van medium-vragmotors geword.

Die reeks bestaan uit modelle met ‘n loonvrag van tussen vier en agt ton, en vyf as afstand lengtes is beskikbaar.  Daarby voldoen die hele reeks aan moderne veligheid standaarde terwyl die moderne ontwerp en geriefs-kenmerke met die beste in die wêreld kan vergelyk. Die panoramiese voorruit en groot buitespieëls maak dit maklik om uit die voertuig te sien en die ligdioge-kop- en agterligte dra verder by tot verhoogde sigbaarheid.  Die moderne instrumente-paneel gee die bestuurder inligting oor brandstof verbruik en beskik ook oor ‘n ratwyser.

Die Tata 814 is nou ook met ‘n outomatiese ratkas beskikbaar.

Twee nuwe modelle is pas by die reeks gevoeg. Die 814, die intreemodel in die reeks, was tot dusver nog net met ‘n handratkas met ses gange beskikbaar ,maar ‘n nuwe model, met ‘n outomatiese handratkas (AMT) is ook nou beskikbaar.  Die 814-modelle word aangedryf deur ‘n dieselenjin met ‘n kapasiteit van drie liter en vier silinders. Hierdie enjin lewer 104 kW teen 2 600 opm en wrinkgrag van 390 Nm teen tussen 1 400 en 2 000 opm. Die AMT volg die moderne neiging om outomatiese ratkaste met handrat-funksies beskikbaar te stel; daar is reeds ‘n aantal mededingers met hierdie tipe ratkas beskikibaar.

Die Ultra 1014, met dieselfde enjin en ratkas as die 814 handrat, kan ‘n loonvrag van 5,5 ton dra, en geen veranderinge is tot dusver aan hierdie model gemaak nie. 

Daar is egter ‘n nuwe topmodel in die Ultra-reeks, naamlik die 1418. Dié model kan agt ton dra, en word toegerus met ‘n nuwe vyfliterenjin met vier silinders wat 132 kW teen 2 400 opm en wringkrag van 590 Nm teen 1 000 en 2 000 opm lewer. Die 1418 is daarom uiters geskik vir kort- en medium afstand-aflewerings terwyl onderhouds-kostes so laag moontlik gehou word. 

Die Ultra-reeks bied ‘n groot verskeidenheid modelle met kenmerke wat hulle van hul mededingers onderskei; volgens die vervaardigers is die Ultra se kajuit die grootste in sy klas, terwyl die reeks ook aan die ECER 29-plettertoets standaarde voldoen.
